The Unit 3 (K-3) of the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant, Pakistan, has successfully conducted a cold functional test of its primary circuit. Following the grid connection of the first HPR1000 unit overseas, the conduction represents another major step forward in constructing HPR1000 projects overseas. The K-3 then enters its commissioning stage. China Zhongyuan Engineering Corporation (CZEC) under China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) is the general contractor of the K-2 and K-3 in Pakistan.
The test was witnessed by the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).
Cold functional test is a comprehensive test of whether the key components and systems in the nuclear island are properly installed and ready to operate in cold conditions. Its main purpose is to verify the security of the primary circuit and components and the function of relevant components and systems. It is the first comprehensive test of the whole reactor's performance.
